Khesh- reviving tradition from sustainability
Origin: Khesh weaving originated from Birbhum district of West Bengal. It was an attempt by the artisans towards eco-friendly techniques. Recycled cotton sari comes to the effect and thus creating what we now call -Khesh Fabric-
Process- khesh technique is associated with weaving old saris by tearing them into strips. The sarees are first washed, treated , segregated by colour and then cut into strips of equal size. The warp includes a new yarn thread, whereas the weft consists of strips of sari. The weaver then weaves these strips on a traditional loom thereby creating this sturdy fabric. The strips may be chosen at random giving rise to an extraordinary piece of work.
